Main Interface

Below is a picture of the main interface for Download Database, with certain sections of the interface noted.

As you can see, the interface can be broken down into 3 areas:

  • The Menu Bar is where you can access functions such as exiting Download Database, sorting your software list, and other functionality of the program.
  • The Software List is where you downloads are displayed in a grid. Each column is resizable.
  • The Command Pane displays quick access to common functions.

Managing Your Downloads

When you work with an individual download, you will be utilizing the following window:

This window is essentially the same whether you are editing a new download, or modifying an existing download.

Adding a Download

To add a download to your software list, click "New Download" on the command panel, or click on the "Download" menu on the menu bar, and select "New Download" from the menu. A window will appear that looks like the one above. Fill in all the fields and click "Ok" to add the download. Please note, the "Download Name" field is required. If you prefer not to type the path to the download, you may click the "Browse" button to select the file. As an alternative, you may drag a file from Windows Explorer onto the window, and the "Download Filename/Path" field will automatically be updated.

Modifying a Download

To modify a download on your software list, first click the download you wish to modify on your software list. Then, click "Modify Download" on the command panel, or click on the "Download" menu on the menu bar, and select "Modify Download" from the menu. A window will appear that looks like the one above, filled in with the relevant data for the download you had selected. Modify the fields you wish to change, and click "Ok" to add the download. Please note, the "Download Name" field is required. If you prefer not to type the path to the download, you may click the "Browse" button to select the file. As an alternative, you may drag a file from Windows Explorer onto the window, and the "Download Filename/Path" field will automatically be updated.

Removing a Download

To remove a download, simply click on the download you wish to remove on your software list, and click "Delete Download" on the command panel. This will bring up a confirmation dialogue to ensure you really want to remove the download from your list. A second dialog will then appear asking if you wish to remove the downloaded file from your hard drive, in addition to removing the item from your software list. As an alternative to clicking "Delete Download" on the command panel, you may click the "Download" menu on the menu bar, and select "Delete Download" from the menu.

Executing a Download

To execute a download, simply click on the download you wish to execute on your software list, and click "Execute Download" on the command panel. This will run an executable download, or launch the associated program for non-executables (such as .zip files). As an alternative to clicking "Execute Download" on the command panel, you may click the "Download" menu on the menu bar, and select "Execute Download" from the menu.

Sorting your Software List

To sort your software list by different columns, click the "Sort" menu on the menu bar, and choose which category you wish to sort by.

Managing Categories/Operating Systems

Managing your available categories and operating systems is done in a window that looks similar to the following picture:

Managing Categories

To manage your available categories, choose "Window" from the menu bar and select "Edit Category List" from the menu. This will bring up a window that looks like the one above. To add a new category, type it into the field under the "New Category" section and click "Add Category." To remove a category, click the category you wish to remove in the list and click "Remove Category." To modify a category, click the category you wish to edit and click "Modify Category". Then, type the updated category name in the field that appears and click "Confirm Modification". When you are finished modifying your categories, click the "Ok" button.

Managing Operating Systems

To manage your available categories, choose "Window" from the menu bar and select "Edit OS List" from the menu. This will bring up a window that looks like the one above. To add a new operating system, type it into the field under the "New Category" section and click "Add Operating System." To remove an operating system, click the operating system you wish to remove in the list and click "Remove Operating System." To modify an operating system, click the operating system you wish to edit and click "Modify Operating System". Then, type the updated operating system name in the field that appears and click "Confirm Modification". When you are finished modifying your operating systems, click the "Ok" button.
